Comic recycle

Colorado Springs is quite active in the recycling market.  Many waste collection companies pick up recycled newspaper, plastic, and tin or aluminum at the curb on regular trash collection days.  There are also numerous locations throughout the city that use the revenue from this collection for income, such as churches, the Humane Society, etc.

Yard waste and Christmas trees are recycled continuously and used for re-vegetation projects throughout the area.

A recent development has been "e-scrap" recycling.  El Paso County officials announced recently the household chemical-waste collection facility is accepting  used electronics, such as computer equipment, stereos, video equipment, cell phones, pagers, fax machines and television with up to 19-inch screens.   Since November 2006, the facility has collected more than 4,500 pounds of electronics, which are then picked up by a private company to be recycled.

Dropoff is free.  Appliances can be taken to the Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility at 3470 N. Marksheffel Road, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.  It is recommended that the public call ahead at 719-520-7878.
